Lunch in Mission Beach

The kitchen opens at 11am. Lunch is the easy stuff done properly: a steak sandwich with rump, bacon, cheese and beetroot on thick toast ($27.50), the MBT Works Burger ($28.50), or fish and chips battered, crumbed or grilled ($28.50).
Eating on your own? Order at the bar, find a seat and take your time. Arriving at 3pm? The kitchen doesn’t close between lunch and dinner.

Food runs until 9pm seven days, so a late swim doesn’t cost you dinner. Tuesday is Parmi Night: $22 parmi and chips, 5pm to 9pm.

Happy hour on the front deck.
Shady Hours is our happy hour, 3pm to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Grab a seat on the front verandah deck, order a cold one at the bar. It is a good spot to cool off after the beach.
The kitchen keeps going until 9pm, so drinks can turn into dinner. Weekends, check what’s on for live music.

The Mission Link Shuttle runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with a new Friday evening service from 6 November. It picks up at Tasman Caravan Park, Cassowary Bus Terminal in Wongaling Beach and Bingil Bay Café. Rides home leave the Tavern at 8:30pm and 10:30pm.

Mission Beach Tavern is family friendly, with a kids menu and free parking. The kitchen runs from 11am to 9pm, so families can eat early after the beach or settle in for dinner without racing a short kitchen window.
The kids menu includes Junior Burger and Chips, Fish and Chips, House Bolognaise, Calamari and Chips, Bangers and Mash, and Chicken Nuggets and Chips, with a vanilla ice-cream dixie cup plus soft drink or juice.
There is free parking on site and along Porter Promenade, with room for caravans, campervans and larger vehicles.

We run the tavern, so you’d expect us to say ours. But we live here, we eat at the other places on our days off, and there’s no point pretending they don’t exist. Here’s where we’d point you, depending on what you’re after.
Steaks, seafood and a proper pub feed
That’s us. T-bone and rib fillet off the grill, salt and pepper squid, battered fish and chips, lamb shanks. The kitchen runs 11am to 9pm every day without closing in the afternoon, which matters more than you’d think when you roll in off the Bruce at 3pm hungry.
A dressier dinner
Plenty Restaurant and Bar, down on Donkin Lane by the beach, does refined modern Asian. For a date night or a special occasion, that’s where we’d send you. Check their days and hours before you go, and book ahead in the season.
Coffee and breakfast
Bingil Bay Cafe, ten minutes up the road at Bingil Bay. Family owned, licensed, and does breakfast the way a beach cafe should. Worth the short drive.
Most kitchens in Mission Beach shut between lunch and dinner, and some drop days in the quiet season, so check a venue’s Facebook page before making a special trip. If you’re arriving mid-afternoon and hungry, we’re the safe bet, because our kitchen doesn’t close.
